mount: you must specify the filesystem type
What Distro version are you running? How often does this occur for
you, every time, 4 out of 5? (it's worked fine for lots of users, but
there a few outliers that it fails on..)

As a last resort, here's the manual instructions, till i'm able to
make this script more bullet proof.. (it won't be till way after
thanksgiving)

I looked at the rootfs partition and there is still nothing in there
except the lost+found folder.
I tried to change the partition type on setup_sdcard.sh from EXT4 to
EXT3,EXT2 and the other one. None of them work except for EXT2.
When I format the partition to EXT2, it always go through "6 / 7:
Populating rootfs Partition" and never stuck on "mount: you must
specify the filesystem type "
but it still outputting

.
.
.
tar: ./var/spool/mail: Cannot unlink: No such file or directory
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors
(same as above)

and still nothing on rootfs partition.

When i plug the sd card on the monitor some of the last lines it
outputted are

Target filesystem doesn't have requested /sbin/init.

Thank you so much.

Hi Frisco,

I've spent some time rewriting the 'setup_sdcard.sh' script...

2 questions:

What is the md5sum of the original ubuntu*.tar.7z and then the
extracted ubuntu*.tar files?

What is the exact command line your issuing: "./setup_sdcard.sh ....."

Using the updated setup_sdcard.sh.

First remove the old one..

"rm setup_sdcard.sh"

Download the new one:

wget --no-check-certificate
https://github.com/RobertCNelson/omap-image-builder/raw/master/tools/setup_sdcard.sh

change to executable

chmod a+x setup_sdcard.sh

if/when it fails can you pastebin.com the whole terminal window as
lots of things get dumped to the terminal..

Thanks,

Hi Robert,

here are the md5sum

***@hz:~$ md5sum ubuntu-10.10-r2-minimal-armel.tar.7z

c200daf106f924d03b87772fe2416819 ubuntu-10.10-r2-minimal-armel.tar

I used this "./setup_sdcard.sh --mmc /dev/mmcblk0 --uboot beagle"

I've up dated the setup_sdcard.sh but it still failed.
is there a problem if i use built in sdcard slot on my labtop (sony
vaio vgn-fz140E) ?
I also tried to write it on my thumb drive instead of sd card and it
went all the way to "7 / 7: setup_sdcard.sh script complete" without
any problem. is it possible that some sd card does not work with this?
my sd card is the one that came with the board (4 gb). Should a get a
new sd card? Or is there any way for me to boot from the thumb drive?

You are really helpful, thank so much.

It could be a lot of things, we might be over-stressing the driver for
that particular device, could be a bug in that hardware.. Do you have
any other usb/sd card readers? If it works with a thumb drive, then
you definitely have all the software requirements correct and i would
have expected it to work fine with the reader...

Hi Robert ,

I'm using external card reader now and it worked pretty well, thank so
much. I ended up installing lucid on the sd card. Now, the problem is,
when i wanted to install the full GUI for Lucid ( i used this command
"sudo aptitude install xfce4 gdm xubuntu-gdm-theme xubuntu-artwork
xserver-xorg-video-omap3" ) it ended up outputting
"E: Failed to fetch http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/pool/main/f/fuse/libfuse2_2.8.1-1.1ubuntu2_armel.deb:
size mismatch".
Do you have any idea how to encounter this?

Thank you.

Yeap, you need to update your deb cache..

you should always run 'sudo aptitude update' before you 'sudo aptitude
install xyz'

Hi robert,

I think I have figured out the problem. My apartment's network
required me to fill out a web authentication form each time it detects
any new devices connected to it. Usually when i open up a browser that
would appear on the browser window, in this case there is no way for
me to fill the pass the authentication using the BB, since i do not
have the desktop interface for the first time i booted the BB. So what
i did was I connected the main LAN cable from my apartment to a
router, then I connected the router to my labtop and to the BB, that
way i could pass the authentication on my labtop and stay connected
trough the network while the BB update its package without need to
pass the authentication. Hope this may help other who face the same
problem. Thanks for your help robert.

Frisco.
